ABOUT ME

Welcome to That vet nurse girl,

Thanks for taking the time to have a look and find out what I'm all about! My name is Tamzyn Lundy and that's my geriatric cat Sushi in the pic behind. Want to know how I got to this point? Then keep reading...

First and foremost I'm a fully qualified and registered veterinary nurse, completing my Bsc (Hons) in veterinary nursing way back in 2006. Although I enjoyed this course immensely, as many student vet nurses out there may just be discovering, balancing working full time and studying can be extremely challenging. Following my degree I worked very happily as a senior VN in mixed animal practice (I have a secret love for large animals too!) It was during this time I began to enjoy supporting student vet nurses and animal assistants in completing their own qualifications, staying behind after my shift to help them revise or put an assignment together, eventually becoming an official mentor.

I eventually applied for a teaching position, teaching student vet nurses and other students studying animal care qualifications in preparation for working in a variety of jobs such as rescue kennels, groomers etc. That was over five years ago and I have never looked back. I have completed my PGCE to become a qualified teacher in addition to a qualified assessor and clinical coach. I have supported 100's of student vet nurses through those dreaded MCQ exams, 5,000 word assignments and dare I say it....OSCE's! Similarly, I have supported many animal care students to complete their on the job apprenticeship including topics such as  handling & restraint, first aid, behaviour,  breeding and many more.

Like all animal lovers, I'm passionate about animal welfare, but believe that the key to improving standards is education and learning and so am passionate about this too. I love discovering new and innovative ways to learn but sharing these techniques with others and seeing the benefits to them and the animals in their care is what really makes me happy.

"At times I have found learning difficult & it's inspired me to help others in their learning journey"

"Everyone can learn more effectively, you just need to understand how"

" Seeing how animals benefit from the learning of those who care for them is what makes me happy"

My Lifelong Learning

My own learning journey never stops to ensure the service I offer you is the best it can be. I work hard to stay current within the veterinary, pet and teaching industries. I have to carry out continued professional development to maintain my position on the RCVS register of veterinary nurses and achieve this by attending industry congresses, e-learning, good old fashioned reading and spending time in veterinary practice. I even find learning experiences  just from working alongside the varied and wonderful people I'm training and supporting

My Philosophy

In the words of Einstein, "Once you stop learning, you start dying". Our modern world is a rapidly changing place, and no one can ever claim to know everything there is to know about any topic. So, you could argue education has never been so important.I believe that everyone has the capability to learn and achieve, they just need the right support to find what works for them to make the process a fun and more enjoyable experience.
